About College

Government General Degree College at Kaliganj was established in 2015 along with three other new government colleges in the district of Nadia in order to fulfil the mission of the Government of West Bengal to provide access to higher education to the maximum number of learners, especially those residing in the remote parts of the state. Located at a serene plot of rural land surrounded by greenery and free from the usual din and bustle of the city life, the college campus provides a calm and peaceful teaching-learning ambience. This ragging-free college campus is secured by CCTV surveillance and continuous monitoring by the security personnel. Despite its rural location, the college is well-connected to the other parts of the district through easily accessible rail and road networks.

Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, the college presently offers undergraduate Honours and Programme courses under the CBCS curriculum in eight subjects from the disciplines of Humanities and Science. Resourceful and accomplished faculty members are dedicated not only to the cultivation and inculcation of knowledge, but also to the holistic development of the learners. With well-furnished and clean classrooms, two improvised e-classrooms, modern and improvised science laboratories, an updated and resourceful library, and a large, open playground, the college stands as a higher education institute with potential for excellence. Within the brief span of six years and in spite of financial and infrastructural limitations, the college has emerged as one of the most acclaimed institutes of higher education in the entire district by virtue of consistent academic and co-curricular accomplishments. In the last few years, several students of this college held ranks on the University merit list, and a good number of the passed-out students are now pursuing higher studies in different prestigious Universities. The NSS unit of the college persistently carries out various social welfare programmes such as community health check-up, blood donation, tree plantation and so on, and thus engages the learners in positive and constructive social work for the greater well-being of the society. During the year-long closure of academic institutes due to the pandemic situation, the college has been successfully and rigorously holding regular online classes, providing the students with available e-resources and study materials, and conducting both the internal and the University examinations.
