About the Central Library

Central Library is the most important information centre of the college. Library was established just after the foundation of this college. Central Library is situated in the main College Building, located on the ground floor. The library has four thousand one hundred seventy documents. Our Library follows ‘Open Access’ system for the Faculty members and ‘Close Access’ system for the students. Our Library functions at present partly in manual system. Library books are arranged by Subject wise classified order in the shelves. Users can access our library collection through the OPAC SYSTEM and Printed subject- wise list of the books. In 2022, the Library came to have a reading area with a large table for general use. The post of the College Librarian was restored and Mr Surjya Kumar Mandal was appointed Librarian in February 2022. Since 2022, the e-granthalaya 4.0 on NIC cloud (e-g4) software is being used. Our Library remains open from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m

During the period (2015-2024), the College Library has accumulated a wide variety of books and has gradually evolved into a golden treasury. At present it possesses about 4170 Books. The Library is having OPAC under e-granthalaya 4.0 and also having reading room facility, which is under CCTV surveillance.

Central Library Rules and Regulations

  1. Each Student will be issued two library Cards; Reading Card and Lending Card.
  2. Reading Card will be necessary for reference studies and as Gate Pass for entering into the Library.
  3. Lending Card can be used for borrowing books for home study.
  4. Maximum two volumes can be borrowed at a time against the Lending Card.
  5. A borrowed book can be retained for a maximum period of 15 weekdays.
  6. Books borrowed against the Reading Card cannot be taken out of the Library in any circumstances.
  7. Rare and aged books are to be handled carefully; nothing to written on any part of the reading materials.
  8. Bags etc. to be deposited in the Deposit Counter before entering into the Library.
  9. Smoking or having foodstuffs inside the Library is also prohibited.
  10. Maintaining silence in the Library and adjacent corridor is earnestly solicited.
  11. Non academic use of Mobile Phones, Cameras etc. inside the Library is also prohibited.
  12. Library Cards are to be kept and preserved carefully. Loss of Library Card will hamper your studies as the issuance of Duplicate Cards is a time-taking process. Firstly, a General Diary is to be registered in the concerned Police Station. Then an application for a Duplicate Card is to be made to the Librarian with the GDE No. Necessary Fees for Duplicate Card is to be submitted in the College Office.
  13. In any case Reading Room cannot be left keeping borrowed books and personal belongings and/or valuables on the Reading Table.
  14. Before leaving the Library Issue Counter the borrower is to be sure that the issued book is in perfect condition in all respects.
  15. Renewal of Library Membership will be available for bonafide regular students who will have paid their statutory fees at least up to date of application for such renewal.
  16. Violation of Library Rules may cause cessation of Library Membership.
  17. The Library Rules framed here-in-above may, from time to time, be changed, altered and amended or new rules may be added by the Library Committee.

Saturday 10.30 AM – 2.00 PM

Activities

Celebration of National Librarians’ Day

National Librarians' Day (12th August) has been observed on 18th August, 2023 at GGDC, Kaliganj. The programme began with the act of paying homage to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan through the offering of garlands and flowers to his photograph by the Librarian, Faculty Members, and students. Then, Shri Surjya Kumar Mandal, the College Librarian, delivered a speech explaining the significance of the day and the contribution of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan in the field of library and information science.
